The Ray Peat Forum has taken a turn for the worst, due to some administrative actions taken by the owner of it. Let's not dwell on it. The purpose of this forum is to move forward with a new forum that implements the principals of the previous forum. That is, an open place for discussion for the ideas of the late Ray Peat with an emphasis on free speech. We will only disallow stuff that makes sense for the purposes of this forum being useful and engaging, such as pornography, spamming, constant trolling/insults from people that are obviously not trying to provide anything productive to the conversation, etc. We just want to encourage open discussion around Ray Peat's principles, even anti-Ray Peat principles. It's that simple. We want engaging conversations so we can find the truth together.
Now, given the previous disaster, how can you trust me? Well, the honest part is, I'm not that interested in moderating a forum nor do I really have the time. So I won't be a very active participant in this forum. I mostly lurked on the Ray Peat forum and didn't participate much in discussion. The content on there is very useful and it would be a shame to see it go to waste. I'm a software engineer with a family and don't have a lot of time for this type of stuff, particularly not the sort of drama that has torn the aforementioned forum apart for practically no sane reason. This is also why my name is "admin" and not a real username. The point is to be a faceless admin that simply ensures the functioning of the forum.
An idea here may be that I'll make a system of backups of this forum content available to everyone (public content only, obviously), once I figure out a way to implement that. That'll allow anyone to pull the backups at any time and store it anywhere for safety. So no important information is lost.
Now, if someone has pulled the information from the prior forum, I could try to write a script to bring it into this forum as best I can. Although it may be difficult to link it to the appropriate users and whatnot. We'll see what I can do if someone has data of some sort.
To be upfront on costs, they aren't high. I purchased a ZenForo license for $190 and it renews at $60 per year. The hosting costs are currently around $10 per month. We'll see how that scales. I have a lot of experience in hosting infrastructure, I can make stuff work for much less than when people pay for pre-setup stuff which charges a fortune. So on that front, no monetary help will be required.
